Amelia Carroll is a contemporary artist based in Australia, known for her serene and atmospheric landscape paintings. Born in Sydney in 1993, she earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the National Art School in 2016, specialising in painting. Her creative process draws heavily on nature and memory, using photographs from her travels as references for her work.
Carroll’s style blends photographic realism with painterly softness, often employing subtle gradients and horizontal layering to produce tranquil, expansive scenes. Her interest lies in exploring the tension between digital imagery and traditional painting methods, inviting viewers to reflect on how we experience and recall place.
She is represented by Liverpool Street Gallery in Sydney and has held solo exhibitions including Mnemon (2018) and Patagonia (2021). Her work has also featured in numerous group shows, such as Artists of Fame and Promise and Resonance in 2024. Amelia has been a finalist in several major Australian art prizes—among them the Hadley Art Prize, the Mosman Art Prize, and the Brett Whiteley Travelling Art Scholarship across multiple years. In 2020, she received the Kedumba Drawing Award, with her work entering the award’s permanent collection.

For 35 years the Kedumba Drawing Award has been one of the pre-eminent awards for drawing in Australia. The addition of the $20,000 prize money will ensure that the Award continues to grow and build on its success for many years to come.
