Andrew Browne

Andrew Browne

Last updated September 12, 2012

Andrew Browne works primarily in painting, but also in photographic mediums including both digital and more traditional forms such as photogravure and lithography. Since the late 1980’s he has investigated the landscape, both natural and man-made, as a motif in his work with a particular interest in representing observed phenomena that deals with illumination and the poetics of the nocturne, evoking the uncanny and the surreal.

His work treads a fine line between realism and abstraction but also takes into account the formal lessons of modernism often seeking to insert the artificial into the natural world. Andrew has had numerous solo exhibitions over the last three decades and has participated in many group shows in both commercial and public galleries including, the Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney, National Gallery of Victoria, 2001, 2002 & 2011 Wynne Prizes and Art Gallery of New South Wales.

His work is represented in significant Australia-wide universities and corporate collections as well as public gallery collections.
