Drawing is extremely meditative for me. The stippling technique I have developed in my practice over the past year has compelled me to draw each mark more slowly and deliberately. Working with ink has made each mark to the paper or canvas more considered in their placement - there are no ‘mistakes’, only ‘happy opportunities’. In this work I also made the choice to use a 0.05mm fineliner pen for most of the drawing, making each dot quite intricate. Together with the texture of the paper this has given the skin of my subject a soft and realistic appearance, reminiscent of a traditional black and white photograph.
