Drawing is important to my art practice as a painter and printmaker, allowing for a rapid and responsive investigation of material.
This drawing combines dreamlike heads with a littoral landscape. The marine forms are a reference to my childhood at the coast, inspiring feelings of serenity and belonging.
A Chinese lantern, featured in some paintings, and gradually stripped of its covering, symbolises a feminine essence that has become exposed and vulnerable. It also functions as a geometric puzzle, introducing structure and order against the surrounding organic forms. The heads possess an eerie, lifelike presence, appearing as moments of stillness.
