After many years focusing on the built environment, my current work over the last five years, sees a return to a subject of great personal meaning – the landscape around where I grew up as a youth trout fishing with my father. In what I feel is a deepening preoccupation, I am driven to further explore my perception of the mysterious, sometimes primeval mood of the Australian bush. The deeper I go, the more I sense the pantheistic harmony of nature and the presence of an unseen ‘otherness’. To this end I am allowing an intentional ambiguity to creep into my work, in which form and colour are now less dependant on observed realism and more expressive of what I feel lies within the marvel of the natural world.
