I immerse myself in a place by drawing it. When I am drawing I am looking at the structural elements, the fleeting elements and the time passing elements. I find places to work and sometimes this modifies the subject as there’s a need to find shade or a safe place to be for a few hours or the day.
Here I am at a burnt out house near Broken Hill. I was drawing with a few other painters most of whom preferred to paint at a nearby creek. This structure was interesting for many reasons, especially the light and shadows created by the walls, windows, doorways and the open roof. I found the placement of the figure, a fellow painter, interesting within the space as he moved around working on his paintings.
