Artist Statement

Growing up in rural NSW, my childhood was immersed in the natural world. Although I spent most of my adult life in Sydney’s inner city, it was essential for me to reconnect with wide open spaces.
In my 20s and 30s, I was particularly drawn to black and white photography. The monochrome palette, with its focus on line and form, honed my creative eye and laid the foundation for the art I create.
After a fulfilling career in the corporate world, I now focus on an art practice that reflects my love of the Australian landscape. I was inspired by artists working with charcoal and ink, and began exploring the textures of stone and trees, and the movement of water, through large charcoal works.
