Moreton Bay Fig trees are becoming a regular theme in my artistic practice. This tree, looking out towards Woolloomooloo, is distinctive due to its woven upper limbs, coupled with the sagging and seeming fluidity of its creases and ripples of the bark. I feel drawn to every imperfection as a mirror of my own aging body, weathered by time and circumstance. Each mark feels like a memory, a moment of growth. By looking up at it from below, the viewer sees both a powerful show of strength, but also an intimate glimpse of each blemish and vulnerability.
