A few years ago working as an artist -in -residence with VASL Karachi, and The Indus Valley School of Art and Architecture, stimulated a series of drawings titled 'Searching for Turtles in Paradise'. Karachi Crows is an extension of this inquiry.
Drawing is my primary art practice and allows me to tease out a collisions of images and ideas, viewed and experienced by living in this city: a city which is raw and dangerous, but at the same time appealing and generous of spirit. The drawing explores ugliness and beauty reflecting this paradox and complexity.
To quote Faiz Ahmed Faiz on the art of Sadequain 'To depict a loveless and macabre world, a world of the scarecrow acting as the Lord of blood-thirsty crows, of the harridan decked out as a beauty queen . . . a world of debased flesh and servile manners. . . . This bitter vision of reality may not be the whole truth'.
