Before I am a painter, I am a drawer. Drawing forms the foundation of every piece I create, which anchors my entire arts practice. This particular work was completed in a single evening during a long pose life drawing session, a frequent and essential part of my creative process.

Our lovely model, Gillian, held this pose with grace. I was drawn to capturing the kindness in her eyes and the gentle way her hair cascaded across her shoulders. I aimed to capture the nuance of her expression, while also gently scribing the life and experience etched throughout her presence and composure.

Some fortunate evenings a drawing just bursts onto a page almost frantically, the lines are there from the very first strokes of the pencil, this was one of those evenings.
