This drawing is a celebration of the intricacies of ecosystems and the shift of my personal practice of just natural pigments to now discovering and breaking down waste materials into pigments, with recent landslides in the upper mountains I have discovered unearthed detritus that’s made its way back into the light, exposing stories of addiction, homelessness, love, travel, philosophy, belonging and entitlement amongst countless others that can never be deciphered.
Watching nature move through rubbish that is imbedded within in its very body is hypnotic and deeply confounding, how does the pursuit of comfort come at such an irreversible cost!?
The pillow is a perfect symbol of comfort and home stained by time and rejection this was a perfect opportunity to draw my story onto it.
By drawing on a found object I hope to share the power of mark making and it’s ability to rationalise the absurd.
