Engaging in repetitive and serial drawing practices while walking in landscapes and gardens of deep meaning has been pivotal to the integrity of my markmaking across my painting and printmaking practice.

Drawing becomes a form of mapping, a way of understanding place and locating meaning. My work negotiates the Giverny water garden as gestural cartography, re configuring memory and association through mark, targeting the felt vibrations of place.During a residency the garden became familiar territory;the willow became embedded in my work as a guardian of place, carrying deep meaning connected to childhood histories. Through numerous in situ drawings their rhythms merge into body memory.

Emerging from deep loss, drawing allows immediate access to such embodied responses, retracing immersion, memory and place as the residue of lived encounter.
