Everything starts with drawing, wether it was for a building I designed, or as the first marks in a painting. I draw very quickly so that I may engage completely with the subject and not overthink each mark,  hence drawing for me provides the opportunity to express a subject or idea with immediacy in a way that painting and architecture are less likely to do.

My artist father passed away this year, a fervent drawer, his favourite subjects were inner city Sydney and Paris. My work is from the edge of Canal St Matin in Paris and is where I met my back-packing son in Paris late last year, and which I discovered later looking through my fathers sketchbooks was the subject of many of his drawings. A chance overlap of three generations held in ink for posterity. Everything starts … and ends with drawing.
