Pastel in hand, both move together across the surface on my easel, marks are made, loosely and often frantically, impatient to see colour and form emerge. For "Salon Lunch" my pastels moved intuitively to capture the energy, colour and community of an annual artist's lunch hosted by Arts-Matter. Wine is poured, and re-poured, conversation only ever seems to mount and burst, never receding, the colours of the bright and painterly interior merge with the artists spilling across the table. The lunch is no practice or precursor for some other event, and in my practice I draw not in preparation for something else, drawing is the main event, drawing is the act of living in the moment.
