‘Scissors and Matisse postcard’ forms part of a recent group of drawings and paintings that reflect on items such as postcards and brochures collected whilst visiting museums and galleries in Europe and North America.
Drawing from the visible world has been a constant form of discipline and engagement for me. Often a private activity, drawing is crucial in informing and giving direction to my painting practise. I am attracted to the structure of things, their proportions, spatial relationships, and the way light interacts with them. I am engaged with the possibilities and challenges of interpreting these forms through the act of observation and drawing.
