Drawing occupies a central place in my artistic practice and is the first point of engagement and as the common denominator, provides an opportunity for a core of deep observation and for things to happen. Drawing enables me to explore highly detailed compositions and investigate aspects of the compositional structural stages that deal with interior framing and positioning. By concentrating on exactitude, I aim to show more and more closely than we would normally experience when closely observing a detailed spectrum of things. While extending observational and constructive functions, it is equally important that that drawing remains an essentially intuitive and contemplative forming process.

Once established the drawings develop as ends in themselves but then go on through further process for subsequent realisation as another work, as either a watercolour, oil painting or print.
