Drawing is everything. A direct response from the nervous system. There is no hiding. All the incidents and accidents are there. I am saying this is exactly who I am whether I know it or like it or not. I am a scientist by training and I love ideas and theories, but that takes me well into my head where I become uncertain about what is real and what is not.. but drawing takes me to that pre-language place where all the ambiguity and uncertainty can sit in uneasy comfort.
This drawing was instinctive and made with a large uneven brush, made with my eyes half-closed. I was aware that although I had some sense of what the leading edge of the brush was doing there was a lot going on with the lagging edge which was outside of my control which I was very interested in expressing.
