Drawing what I see and feel allows me to truly understand my world. Last year, I had the profound privilege of caring for my stepmother in her final days in the UK. In her garden, a sanctuary of memories and vibrant life, we found solace together. Revisiting this cherished space, with its dark inky shades and pops of bright colours it became a warm embrace, embodying her essence and reminding me that she lives on. Through repeatedly drawing this place by using memory and haptic touch, I create drawings that are deeply rooted within me. By drawing blind I let one hand feel and the other draw, I produce raw and dynamic marks that resonate with my experiences. The addition of collaged papers disrupts the composition and echoes the fracture of our family without our mums. Throughout this year, my drawings have vividly captured this place, forging connections to Dottie and my fond memories.
