Drawing is an exploration, an extension of feeling and thinking about my work. It is a felt process, intuitive, immediate and visceral. It questions reality, is elastic and can be moved, erased, changed and reinvented. In the physical process of mark making and exploration it reveals my thought process. It is the direct link between my imagination and hand. I enjoy using collage and extending and removing paper in search of completing an image.
Having seen the play "Grief is the Thing with Feathers" I was moved to make a drawing of the raw emotion summoned by the mythical character of Crow that embodies the painful reality of grief. The Crow in Max Porter's novel references the poetry of Ted Hughes and it is the multilayered use of literature and theatre that inspires me to create narrative drawings that reflect the human condition.
