Vive el emperador

Artist Statement

Drawing is my way of expressing thoughts and reflecting on significant moments in my life, similar to a diary entry. I use only lines, overlapping them to create shading and highlight features, showing that art doesn’t have to be complicated. It’s about patience—using a simple method to create detailed pieces. In 'Vive el Emperador', I reflect on the inspiration I felt during regular visits to the Art Gallery of NSW while growing up, particularly from Edouard Detaille's 'Vive L'empereur'. Spanish writing encircles the silhouette, symbolizing my internal dialogue, reminding me that if past artists could inspire, so can I.
