'Women at Altitude'

The inception of The Kedumba Drawing Award in 1990 marked the beginning of a renowned collection and a celebration of female artists' influence on Australian art. Margaret Woodward's ground-breaking piece, "Celebration for Onions and Garlic," chosen as the first acquisition by Judge John Coburn in 1990, paved the way for what would become the illustrious Kedumba Drawing Collection.

Since then, the collection has flourished, encompassing over 80 drawings by women. These works range from established professionals in Australia to emerging talents taking their first steps in the art world.

As we commemorate International Women's Day, the Kedumba Collection proudly embraces inclusivity and highlights the remarkable contributions of women artists. From its modest beginnings in 1990 to the recent acquisition of Charmaine Pike's drawing, "The World is Staged," acquired for the collection by judge Kurt Schranzer in 2022. Every piece in our collection represents the enduring legacy of female artists in Australia.

These drawings not only enrich our collection but also serve as inspiration for others to embark on their own artistic journey. They remind us of the transformative power of creativity to transcend boundaries and reshape our perceptions of the world. In celebrating these women and their art, we honor their resilience, vision, and unwavering commitment to enriching our cultural landscape.
