Born 1925 in Staffordshire, UK. Arrived in Australia 1950. After working in coalmines and then active service in the British Navy during WWII,
Patrick became a Franciscan Brother at the age of 25.

In 1971 in Brisbane, he had his first formal introduction to art and in 1976 he was permitted (by the Franciscan Order) to attend the Brisbane College of Art. Shortly after being moved to Melbourne, he enrolled at Prahran Technical College and completed his full-time diploma of art in 1978 (aged 53 years) amidst student colleagues less than half his age.

Pam Hallandal and Jim Paterson at Prahran were particularly important in his development of drawing and it was through Jim’s encouragement that Patrick
approached Bruce Pollard to exhibit at Pinacotheca. Patrick exhibited at Pinacotheca in 1980 and 1982. Exhibited at Niagara Galleries until 1994 when he stopped painting, committing his time to working with homeless men and his religious life.

In 2006 Patrick exhibited his series of works on the life of St Francis of Assisi at Watson Place Gallery. In 2007, the gallery relocated to Richmond and the newly named Place Gallery exhibited Patrick’s works on Stations of the Cross, in 2009 Patrick’s series on Mary and in 2011, Recent Work.

Patrick was included in the exhibition, The Naked Face Self-portraits, at the National Gallery of Victoria International, Melbourne, 3 December 2010 to 27 February 2011. Henigan’s work is held in the Australian National Gallery, National Gallery of Victoria, LaTrobe University Gallery, LaTrobe Valley Art Centre, Mornington Peninsula Regional Gallery, Prahran College, the Kedumba Collection and many private collections.
