Artist Statement

Since 2017 I have been making drawings from news feed images, deliberately slowing down fleeting moments of conflict. Enlarging and scrutinising these images of war-torn places is a humbling act, forcing me to absorb what is so often scrolled past. History repeats in relentless cycles of violence, displacement and rebuilding. Through drawing I seek to highlight this urgency, asking audiences to pause and confront these patterns, not as distant events but as shared human experiences. Safety, love and dignity remain fragile yet universal needs. My recent work, Thread the Needle (unravelling), bridges past and present, reminding us that art is both a mirror to society and a call to action. By reworking these mediated images into intimate hand-made drawings, I hope to cultivate empathy and an active awareness of our interconnected world.
